Medicinal chemistry is concerned with the development, optimization, and design of chemical molecules for use as therapeutics. It's an intrinsically multidisciplinary topic, starting with the synthesis of new medications and progressing through investigations of their interactions with biological targets to better understand the drug's medical effects, metabolism, and adverse effects. Medicinal chemistry is a field of science that has advanced quickly in recent decades. The early understanding of medicinal chemistry as "synthesising bioactive molecules" has become the connecting bridge of a variety of related scientific disciplines, thanks to technological advances. Medicinal chemists are working to improve existing medications as well as create new bioactive compounds. They work to modify the structure and hence the properties of molecules in order to improve their interactions with target(s), metabolism, toxicities, and drug delivery dynamics in terms of developing treatments that are selective and have few side effects. We can elucidate a compound's biological target thanks to our increased understanding of diverse biological pathways. Analytical tools are improving, allowing us to better understand how drugs are absorbed, transported, and removed from the human body.
