Structural Biological Studies

Structural Biological Studies

Structural biology is the study of biological macromolecules' molecular structure and dynamics, particularly proteins and nucleic acids, and how structural changes affect their function. The principles of molecular biology, biochemistry, and biophysics are all incorporated into structural biology. Proteins are of great interest to structural biologists since they perform so much of the work in the body. Biologists are increasingly looking at RNA-protein complexes, which are huge molecules made up of RNA and proteins. Over the last 20 years, structural biology's contributions to drug development have grown from structure-based ligand optimization to a wide range of clinically important problems. This broadening of scope is due to technological advancements that allow structural information to be obtained more quickly and for more complex molecular systems, as well as the combination of different technologies such as X-ray, NMR, and other biophysical methods, which allows for a more comprehensive molecular understanding of disease and treatment options.
